One of my all-time favorite movies is “Miss Congeniality” which premiered in December of 2000. The entire cast of this movie is remarkable, and the directors did a phenomenal job of aligning the right actor with the corresponding character.

The story line goes like this: Undercover F.B.I. Agent Gracie Hart (played by the luminous Sandra Bullock) who is a bright and capable Agent, who both dresses and acts like a guy. Due to a an error in judgment on a case which results in a near disaster, earning Gracie a demotion, and an assignment to work with the “good looking but not nearly as smart as Gracie” Eric Matthews, who is also a very “by the book” agent. They are assigned to lead the high profile case of a terrorist coined The Citizen.

Gracie pieces together the evidence to determine that The Citizen’s next target will be the Miss United States beauty pageant. And this is where the real fun starts to happen! Eric, with no other undercover female agent remotely fitting the demographic, assigns Agent Hart to go undercover as a pageant contestant to see if she can flush out The Citizen.

Hilarity ensues, as does a big change in Gracie’s perspective on Beauty Pageants, and more so Beauty Pageant contestants.

My favorite line in the entire movie is when Miss Rhode Island is asked by William Shatner, “What is your perfect date?” She responds with “That’s a tough one. I’d have to say April 25th. Because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.”
